About us
McKinley Alexander Rushing Was born on December 14, 2016 to Keira and Daniel Rushing. He has one sister McKenzie Abigail Rushing. McKinley passed from this life on April 5, 2021. He touched many lives in his abbreviated life here. To know him was to love him. From his beautiful brown eyes to his contagious smile. He would have you wrapped at first sight. He had a great personality and not much seemed to phase him. We focused on his abilities rather than his disabilities which allowed him to experience many things. We hope to offer the same love and care we received to other families through McKinley’s Care.

More About us
Sherry Harper was one of McKinley’s Nurses who took exceptional care of him from the first day they met. Before becoming a Nurse Practitioner, sherry did private duty nursing for many years. Sherry enjoyed time outside with McKinley, and just the simple fact that she could take part in helping him enjoy life as any little boy should. Sherry looks forward to helping touch the lives of other kids and showing the same love that was given to McKinley
A Note from Sherry :
My journey with pediatric private duty nursing began six years ago, and I have continued this journey ever since. There have been so many rewarding experiences while working with children whom the world sees as “complex.” While others see complexity, I have always seen past the physical aspects to their beautiful souls where they deserve the same nurturing and encouraging treatment as other children. In 2018, I had Saige whom was 6 weeks early. She was in the NICU ten days on a c-pap machine for breathing issues. After many diagnostic tests along with multiple specialist visits, it took her several years to become fully healed. Her journey has made me strive to advocate even more for children. Through the many doctor visits, multiple tests, and specialists; private duty nursing will allow you and your child to have a sense of normalcy and comfort during the most difficult times. One on one care will be provided to maximize your child’s health status and allow them to be as comfortable as possible in the process.
McKinley’s Care was started in honor of McKinley Rushing. He is one of the many children I grew to love as if he was my very own while working as a private duty nurse. I loved providing him one on one care where I could define the true meaning of being a nurse unlike facility jobs where documentation seemed more important. I got to know him and he got to know me. We developed our same routine of waking him up, giving him his medications, and starting his day by putting him in his chair and letting him play. He got to know my oldest daughter, Trinity. The bond they had and the memories they created are still brought up to this day from her. Little did my family know, taking care of McKinley would create an untouchable bond with his family. Through his journey, McKinley’s legacy will carry on by McKinley’s Care providing the same nursing care to other children with complex needs.
